HBR's 2002 REALTOR® of the Year

Designated REALTOR® Mary Begier, CRS of Mary Begier Realty has been named the 2002 REALTOR® of the Year by the Honolulu Board of REALTORS®. The REALTOR® of the Year Award is the most distinguished award the Honolulu Board of REALTORS® has had the honor of presenting for the last 45 years.

About being selected for this award, Begier says, "People often ask me how I can afford to spend as much time as I do volunteering. When you receive the recognition and appreciation of your peers like I am in receiving the REALTOR® of the Year Award for HBR, how can I afford not to volunteer! It's the caliber of member and community contacts that I have made in my volunteer endeavors that enhances the service I am able to provide my clients, my community and my industry. Being a REALTOR® is something I am very, very proud to be!"

"Mary is fiercely passionate about work and volunteering and is held in the highest esteem by her peers and the community," said Helen Lindemann, chair of the REALTOR® of the Year committee and REALTOR® of the Year in 2000. "With an emphasis on government affairs, Mary has tirelessly worked on an endless number of committees at the local, state and national levels. From issues of private property rights and housing and community development to the Hawaii Hurricane Relief Fund, Mary has definitely made an impact on the real estate industry. She truly embodies the REALTOR® spirit."

With more than 20 years of experience in real estate, Begier plays an active role as an HBR Board member. She is currently a board director and the chair-elect for 2003 and has served on various Board committees, including City Affairs, Strategic Planning, and Finance/Audit. She has also served as a director for the Hawaii Association of REALTORS® and the Hawaii Island Board of REALTORS® on the Big Island, both of which named her REALTOR® of the Year in 2001. On the national level, she has participated in numerous committees for the National Association of REALTORS®. In 1998 she received the Aloha `Aina REALTOR®'s Choice Award.
